True, sexism does not always necessitate the intent to harass. Sexism towards a female Investigator might simply imply.... "Why is a pretty lady like you doing work like this? Aren't you supposed to be at home cooking for your Man? Or shouldn't you be at the grocery market buying fish and vegetables so you can cook a nice meal for your family?"

A Southern Gentleman could be sexist, and at the same time still be very polite towards a lady.

Sexism/racism does not mean that ugly harassment is the intention. It does often mean that one thinks that females (or minorities) are not capable of carrying out tasks and duties reserved for white males. It does often involve stereotyping and type-casting.

So yes, there certainly are varying degrees of sexism and racism.
