Thread: Does Chaosium hate money?

    Does Chaosium hate money?

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know all that much about how Chaosium operates and who owns what rights (to scenarios/campaigns) and so on, I'm very new to the hobby and even newer to CoC. So if my questions seems ignorant it's because they are!

Anyway, I keep hearing a lot of good things about "Beyond the Mountains of Madness", "Masks of Nyarlathotep", "Horror on the Orient Express" and "Day of the Beast" to name a few. But every one of them are impossible to find new, why is that? I just don't get why reprints aren't being made and sold.

Sure, I know Ebay exists but it's not really a serious option, each of those books are going to end up costing at least $60-70, probably more, and that's not even including shipping to Europe (another $20-or-so) and then there's always customs to take into consideration. In the end I'd probably be looking at about $100-150 or so for each of those books, it's just not an option (for me).

If reprints were made of each of those campaigns I mentioned before I'd buy a copy of each day one, and I can't be the only one.

    edit: spelling

There was re-release of "Beyond the Mountains of Madness" not long ago - has it sold out again?

They could at least sell them as PDFs, if they want to avoid the printing costs. I for one would love to get my hands on them but I'm not going to pay 100-200$ / book.

I must admit the only thing that realy anoys me with Chaoisum is the cost of there postage and packaging to Europe.

They ran out almost immediately from what I could tell from the site. I tried to get an order in, but I was too slow.

I believe I read on Chaosium's site they are looking to get a new batch of them printed....

    Sure is a popular item!

I just did a quick search on Masks, Orient Express, Beyond and Kings and only ones I can find are couple on eBay for 100+ $ each. How big are Chaosium prints? 100 copies?

As of April 11, 2008, but with it being from Australia, the currency change and cost of shipping probably would jack it up

    Horror on the Orient Express

Heh, I bet Chaosium guys keep couple copies and then sell them on eBay for $$ I guess I have to go with Shadows of Yog-Sothoth which I can get for ~8$ from drivethrurpg.

I recently got in touch with Chaosium about some of their reprints and found out the following:
-BtMoM will be RE-reprinted sometime this summer
-Escape from Innsmouth will potentially be added to the drivethrurpg.com selections

So good news on both of those fronts!

[EDIT: wrote Masks, but meant Escape]

Yay! about Escape from Innsmouth. I've got the old one, and I really desperately want that new adventure from the new one, but there's no way I'm going to pay those ridiculous prices for it!

So why *don't* they put a lot more of their stuff online as PDFs for sale? That'd practically be no risk for them, no cost of printing, no cost of making a new book!

That may not happen, unless Chaosium finds some way to make amends with pissed off authors (who still own the rights).
