Lol. Leave him alone, he's a good guy. He's not gathering the material together yet for a DVD release because we're working on "The Colour Out of Space" script (among other things).

OK tell him he's bought himself some time but we'll be watching!

I can't find it right now, but on the cover of an old edition of the King in Yellow there's a version of the Yellow sign that's very different to Ross's version. Don't remember much about it except I thought it looked a bit crap. Oh, and there was a lizard on the cover too.
I'm guessing that it would be the one discussed on this page http://www.fortunecity.com/roswell/goldendawn/31/truesign.html as from my initial post. It seems to be the publishers logo...
So I am no closer to getting my question answered _________________ We do not stop playing because we get old; we get old because we stop playing - George Bernard Shaw

Cynick was there a particular game related reason you wanted to know about this?
None what-so-ever. I just noticed the YS copyright notice in the front of Chaosium's Chambers collection and wondered if there was a Derleth/Lovecraft Elder Sign situation going on. Derleth's Elder Sign is merely a modified pentagram that pretty much anyone could have come up with, and then someone (I forget who) found the rather more alien version in Lovecraft's correspondence. So I guess it's more in the line of a scholarly question.
Did Chambers ever doodle a Yellow Sign somewhere, or did he leave it completely nebulous?
(Plus I have contemplated getting it as a tattoo, and might feel slightly foolish if someone finds a "real" Yellow Sign.) _________________ We do not stop playing because we get old; we get old because we stop playing - George Bernard Shaw

Some of you may have a sneaking suspicion that Hastur/The King in Yellow is my favourite aspect of the Mythos. You could be right...
PoC, any chance of the Yellow Sign being added to the available avatars? _________________ We do not stop playing because we get old; we get old because we stop playing - George Bernard Shaw

Many thanks. _________________ We do not stop playing because we get old; we get old because we stop playing - George Bernard Shaw
You know, I've always thought the Yellow Sign looks an awful lot like the Blue Oyster Cult logo, turned up side down and reversed: http://www.babyliz.com/BoneBash2002.html (about half-way down the page).

Never really got into them myself, I gravitate toward the heavier/weirder end of the musical spectrum. Does anyone know what Kevin Ross' musical tastes were when he designed the sign? Can he make any comment as to its creation? _________________ We do not stop playing because we get old; we get old because we stop playing - George Bernard Shaw

Have any of you ever really listened to Blue Oyster Cult?
In the Presence of Another World
---------------------------------------
In the presence of another world
You guess the things unguessed
In the fullness of another world
There is no emptiness
In the promise of another world
A dreadful knowledge comes
How even space can modulate
And earthly things be done
Your master he's a monster
He will come on a bridge of paper
Inscribed with a hundred names of God
But he can count one more
The curse of life eternal
Written on the door
Your master.....he's a monster
Your master.....he's a monster
Your master.....he's a monster
In the presence of another world
A dreadful knowledge comes
How even space can modulate
And earthly things be done
In the fullness of another world
There is no emptiness
Your master.....Your master is a monster
Your master.....Born of a yolkless egg
Your master.....He has dominion over animals
Your master.....He walks the world, Entrail diviner
Your master.....And when the stars are right
Your master.....He locks the door, behind the door, behind the door
Your master.....The milky way abyss inclines
Your master.....The seven years of labor for the instruments of time
Your master.....The seven years of labor for the instruments of time
Your master.....The seven years of labor for the instruments of time
Your master.....The seven years of labor for the instruments of time
Your master is a monster
And gentlemanly too
He'll make for us some new germ
With pieces of the perfect black
The alpha and omega
The double peaks of Mars
The maze of his infinity
The buried city
In the stars
Have any of you ever really listened to Blue Oyster Cult?
Yes, but for every Imaginos there's a Godzilla lurking around the corner.
That's because Sandy Pearlman wrote 90% of the good lyrics. (Including all of Imaginos - probably the most Lovecraftian song cycle ever written, even without any actual Cthulhic references).

Not sure what's going on here, but my post from Chris Thill re: the Sign seems to have been lost in the hypnotic irridescent globes of Yoggy.
Anyway, here's Kevin Ross's take on the matter:
Quote:
As for my version of the Yellow Sign, I think I told you way back when that
my original conception of the Sign was that it was a stylized depiction of
the thing behind the King itself: that is, of Hastur. The version that I
sent to Chaosium for the scenario was actually upside down and maybe
backwards (I don't quite recall...) of the version that has become so
popular. (Yes, for those of you keeping score at home, that does indeed
mean that Chaosium took my design and turned it inside out and upside down, like they do most things.) If you look at what I had INTENDED the Sign to look like, you'd see a sort of coiled body beneath the central eye with tentacles coming out of the center (and one tentacle drips ichor).
Which brings us to your second question, re Blue Oyster Cult. With the coil
underneath it, the symbols does indeed strongly resemble BOC's Chronos
symbol. Deliberate? I can't remember. Am I a BOC fan? You betcha. Imaginos is the best occult concept album of all time. I've got all of their stuff, and stilllove 'em dearly.
To sum up: the Yellow Sign = Hastur, but Chaosium fu** it up (people seem to like the skewed version anyway, so go figure). The original Sign was indeed very similar to BOC's Chronos, and I am a fan.
