Not only. In any paragraph, "abandoning" just one line (some others talk that the minimum is two or three) in one column to keep the rest of the text in a different one is creating a widow or orphan (whether the abandoned line rests at the end of a column or beginning of a column).
It is considered "bad practice". _________________ We are trying to do interesting things about the Mythos:

Badger, I noticed at least one 'widow' or 'orphan' when I was reading the book the other day. It's where the heading is down the bottom of one page and the paragraph starts at the top of the next. In a previous job, I was taught to have at least three lines of text beneath a heading before the next page starts. Hope this makes sense.
It does, totally. Thanks very much for this. I try to avoid this as much as possible, but obviously i blew it here.

I firmly believe in credit where it is due...and in this case, blame where it should lie. That's with me. I pressured Badger and moved him through some of this faster than he would have liked, and then may not have looked closely enough at the finished product before we went to print.
Yes, we lost our CEO, and that was *terrible*, but people had paid for this book MONTHS before it's original due date, and that was 6 months previous.
Badger did a great job picking up where Doc left off, and with his help, MRP was allowed to continue. _________________ Tom Lynch

Well well well...
I've not yet finished OlOS, having decided against taking it on holiday with me in Andalusia ( didn't want sand on my copy but what I've read is ab-so-lu-te-ly first rate... And having brought with me Cthulhu Britannica, I'd advise Tom and Osk to hold on to the chair and unhook the rope: I have found very very very few instances of mistakes in the book, which is loaded with TONS of info and reading material, up to now ( i'm in the middle of the third part). _________________ christian lehmann
That was a great review. Very thoughtful and engaging. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. It's reviews like that that remind me why I do this stuff. (Well, that and the fact that for the first time in a long time, writing and editing CoC is FUN again.)
I do have one small question, something you mentioned both here and in your First Thoughts capsule. You state that the art doesn't fit the campaign for some reason. Could you clarify what you mean by that? I was tremendously happy with almost all of Jason's art, and in any case, if there's a problem with the art it can be traced back to my doorstep, since I assigned all the art, and was very specific about what I asked for. Just curious as to which bits didn't work for you.
Again, I really appreciate your take on the book. Thanks again.

No one will believe me.
I don't know why I write this down.
I don't know whether I SHOULD write this down.
I should never have read that book. I should never have half-jokingly pointed out to Kevin Ross that there was a French spelling mistake in his first dedication.
I finished the book yesterday around 16:00 PM. I then decided to view for the first time the HD footage I had shot on holiday with my wife this summer in Scotland and the South of France. At one point the camera filmed strange rock formations on the Isle of Skye, kept returning to them.
My wife asked: are these trees or rocks?
Rocks, I answered. And for no good reason, seeing them there in the mist atop a moutain, I thought of the Ladies.
Then the next shot.
My wife is smoking a cigarette on the quay in a small fishing village, she turns to smile at the camera. There are boats bobbing in the swell behind her.
And the name of the first boat is
THREE SISTERS.

Kevin,
Thank you for the kind words. I am really pleased with the review and glad that I took the time to write it. I have already thanked Tom, but thank you also for the complimentary review copy.
In answer to your question, the problem is that my reaction to the book's artwork is subjective. I wonder how much of the artwork I would use as handouts or show my players, and so far not very much. The book's figure work does not always feel quite right. _________________ --

Are you mad? That's how these things spread! Haven't you seen The Ring?
And Christian, welcome to Their world. You noticed them, and they noticed you noticing them. You might be alright. If you start having the dreams though... Good luck! It took me 20 years to get them out of my system. I guess I wasn't kidding with that whole "Now My Ghosts Are Yours" business. Sheesh.
