I am running a CoC one shot this Halloween and I want to run a scenario from one of the Chaosium Halloween monographs.
I don't have any, which means I need to buy one. Can anyone give me a recommendation as to which of the Halloween monographs to buy? |

It's not from Chaosium, but I'll toss out Midnight Harvest, the Halloween adventure we (Super Genius Games) released last year. It's set in Rhode Island and takes place a few days before Halloween with the climax on the night itself.

Anything by Oscar Rios is usually a pretty safe bet. "Halloween in Dunwich" from the first Halloween Horror monograph is a solid scenario.
Last Halloween, I ran Scott Aniolowski's "Trick or Treat" from Blood Brothers. |

| If you want a great Blood Brothers-like scenario, I recommend All Nighter. Its also great when converted to AFMBE. |

| Kevin Ross' "The Dare", from Dwellers in Shadow(?) is fun (you play preteens) and set on Halloween. MRP might want to rerelease that one as a PDF... |

Sorry to copy and paste this from another thread but I thought it was this thread to begin with
*************************************************************************
If you go with Oscars 'Halloween in Dunwich' from the first Halloween contest monograph, then I have an idea that I did for my friends that your players may like.
The scenario has a Halloween custom that I used props for that turned out to be fun and meaningful to the scenario. I got small pumpkins and black tea candles. I had the players carve pumpkins when the adventure got to that part and had the players use it in role play. good times
its a bit messy but gets folks in the mood
So the Halloween contest monographs adventures have a lot more selection after you get past the first one. Not really sure I can say which one would be the best pick but the first 2 Halloween Horrors have reviews you can check out. I do like the layout and art on the Bride of Halloween Horror. I'm currently looking at the Plan 09 from Halloween and it looks pretty fun. I'm currently reading 'Must the Show go on?" by Jason Williams just to see how closely the cover art reflects in his scenario. It seems to be a fun romp. So does the "Flesh Festival" by Victor Aguirre. I don't want to tell you why for obvious reasons. I skimmed "You are what you eat" by Jason Lindsey and that seems very fun for the fact its setting is a diner and not a haunted house. Haven't gotten to the part how it relates to Halloween but at this point I don't care because it looks like one messed up (in a very good way) event for players to run through. Most of the scenarios seem to be Arkham area. Some of the other Halloween monographs tend to stray from Arkham and the massachusetts(sp?) area...this is mostly true with the Bride of Halloween Horror.
I'm trying to recall some of the other scenarios in the other Halloween monographs. R.J. Christensen did one called "Sahdows of War Past" that I liked ALOT for some reasons, it is in the Halloween Horror Returns! monograph. I think it reminded me of something out of Blood Brothers scenario's. Halloween Horror 2 had a scenario where the players were cultist called "The Devil's Agents" by Shawn Proctor. I think I just favor that one shot because one of the cultist has my first name but it sticks in my mind. Hey I didn't say I was biased or objective....maybe non-euclidian.
Oh Oscar Rio's did an adventure or two in all the Halloween Horror Monographs. As someone already mentioned he is solid as a writer...and prolific. Just in case you are curious he has two in Halloween Horror 2. BTW If you liked his Halloween in Dunwhich then I would suggest getting the Halloween Horror Returns because it has the scenario "Masks of Halloween" and it captures the feeling of Halloween in small town America well.
SO I hope this helps. _________________ www.snack-fu.com

| I think Act II of the Curse of the Yellow Sign would make an excellent Halloween one-shot. It is only thematically linked with the first Act, and involves a play with a masked ball. And it is very, very creepy. |

A very good scenario that I ran for Halloween was the 1st part of Malice with Aforethought from the Arkham Country book.
The scenario starts with a call to the pcs to pick up their relative/friends from the sanitarium due to maintenance issue. When they arrive, they find the sanitarium's employee missing and patients running loose.
The pcs are soon caught in a deadly cat & mouse scenario with the new tenant.
And of course this occurs during Halloween |
