The players are in a quandary: deeply suspicious of the entire set up; scared of Byragan in Belgrade, who has the Arm; and now aware that Fenalik has the Head and will be coming for them. They are least worried about the Brothers, who they think are just a bit pathetic, and their current plans are either a) throw the Simulacrum in the Mediterranean and walk away or b) leave it carefully guarded while scouting Constantinople.
I am also in something of a quandary. The campaign assumes
I’m 2 sessions behind on this write up, so some catching up is in order.
As the players had foolishly given me time to think between sessions, I decided that I needed to shake them up a bit, and also start working in links for the next scenario, Sophia.
Last session saw the unresolved search for Arthur Sommers, the death of Gilbraithe, and ended with Lytton facing down mad artist Maxwell, having discovered a corpse in the bathtub and deranged rantings on the walls.
In the session before last, I ran the modified train scenario instead of Zagreb, and to be honest it was a bit of a disaster. My amendments over-confused the plot, and I didn't give them enough to hook them, so they just sat there looking bewildered until things played out. Luckily it didn't mess with anything vital to the plot, so I'm just going to sweep the whole thing under the carpet.
This weekend's session in Belgrade was much better. As I mentioned before, I'm using Bad Company
Bitter experience has shown that my players have a remarkable resistance to side plots and red herrings. Venice is a nice section, but requires the players to get interested in a random subplot for no apparent reason, and to no real benefit. I decided to introduce Maria in a different way, with a connection to Fenalik. I wanted to use the classic trope of the vampire stalking a young lady, and play up the dream elements I had attached to Fenalik. Another element I wanted to bring in was Venice’s
I’ve been remiss in updating – there’s a session from last month to report – but I have a scenario to design for the weekend and writing this might organise my mind. The missing session is Venice which went well, with more dream-weirdness from Fenalik. Now they are pushing on past Trieste (already done, out of order), and the next scenario ought to be Zagreb. As I said in an earlier entry, I don’t think my players will go for Zagreb, and it doesn’t really fit in with the dream events I’ve added
