About Emrys
Biography:
My brother got me into roleplaying back in 1978 (eek!) with AD&D. Yes, I'm old.

Joining a "proper" gaming group in, I think, 1983 introduced me to Traveller, Runequest, Stormbringer and, of course, Call of Cthulhu among others (Golden Heroes anyone?). I remember that the first CoC adventure I ran was the Mystery of Loch Feinn but I don't recall using many published scenarios after that - I think I just looted sections I liked from published scenarios and filled in the gaps from my own degenerate imagination.

After a long break from gaming, I started again in 2007 or 2008 with WFRP2 (one of my favourites), D&D4 and a few others. I'm currently running a couple of modern day CoC scenarios but hope to start running SoYS in the classic era one I've managed to kill off all those 21st century investigators. Shouldn't be long now ...

Nightmares in Norfolk: The Violet Horror (Session 5)

by Emrys on Today at 12:23 AM
10:30am, 21st February, Sheafe Street

As the investigators are looking back up at the house a messenger arrives for Buckenham - his Aunt Agatha is arriving in Boston. His presence is required - immediately. Wilson makes his apologies and sheepishly driven away to perform family responsibilities.

No sooner has Buckenham left, however, than Hutchy Moon arrives on the scene. He's spent an interesting hour or so trying to convince a Lieutenant McKenna of Boston PD that he is

Nightmares in Norfolk: the Corbitt House (Session 4)

by Emrys on 14th May 2012 at 12:24 PM
Wednesday 19th February

Deciding that two groups weren't enough, our brave team split into three. Hutchy Moon heads off to the newspaper archives to see what more can be dug up.

Father Flannegan goes to the Commonwealth Court - he'd been pointed in that direction by a helpful lady at the City Archives when he'd asked about the closure of the strange church.

Buckenham and Mrs Charles go for a more personal approach and head off to talk to the neighbours.

Nightmares in Norfolk: One mystery solved, another two appear (Session 3)

by Emrys on 14th May 2012 at 12:23 PM
11:15am, 8th February 1924, Father Flannegan's office

Flannegan got back from the meeting with accountant to discover that a tearful young lady had arrived shortly after he'd left and was waiting to see him in his office. It was Molly, Mrs Rutherford's maid.

Through copious tears and snorts she admitted that she'd not seen a ghost at all.

A young man had come to the house a few weeks earlier, collecting for St Augustine's orphanage. It appears that he

Nightmares in Norfolk: Mr Rutherford's Return (session 2)

by Emrys on 2nd April 2012 at 10:53 AM
4pm, 7th February 1924, Roxbury MA

Buckenham turned the key in the lock and, with a hefty click, the door to the den was unlocked. Opening the door, he saw a fireplace opposite the door with a large seascape painting above it. To his left were wall-to-wall bookshelves and to his right, in the bay window, stood a roll-top bureau. The bookshelves suggested an interest in accounting, in New England's history and a varied selection of not particularly taxing fiction. The bureau was unlocked

Nightmares in Norfolk: a Shadows of Yog-Sothoth campaign

by Emrys on 26th March 2012 at 06:53 AM
This blog will follow the exploits of a strange group of investigators as they embark on the classic Shadows of Yog-Sothoth campaign. In theory it'll be updated weekly until all the investigators (and their replacements) have triumphed or have been thoroughly defeated in a nasty, nasty way.

House rules

  • After rolling 01 for a skill roll, a successful Idea roll means the skill immediately increases by 1 point (an idea borrowed from BRP Classic Fantasy).
  • After rolling
