Playing Call of Cthulhu online at Play@YSDC

Rate this Entry
I play the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game online, by forum, at Play@YSDC. There are lots of games running there, from all time periods, so Dark Ages, through Gaslight (Victorian), 1920s (Classic era for Call of Cthulhu), Modern, and other eras / often futuristic. It's a really good way for playing if you can't fit in face-to-face gaming. I can roleplay with people around the world, and in multiple scenarios at once. We've just finished a modern scenario, from one of the "Strange Tales of Dread & Wonder" collections. And I'm still playing in a Gaslight game from Cthulhu Britannica, and a hand-crafted Dr Who / Call of Cthulhu crossover game set on Pluto in the future. That last one is the second in a planned campaign of games. The first was set in the British Museum in the 1930s, with evil egyptologists, mummies and ghouls. We got through that, but have to see if we all make it through Pluto and the Mi-Go. Much fun anyway. I also played through The Haunting on the site, the introductory scenario in the game rulebook.

Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying The Ninth Planet. The game is turning out even better than I had imagined, thanks to the players doing interesting things and some unexpected help from the dice in making something awesome happen that changed everything. This is a very player-driven adventure, as almost all of the (human) characters are intended to be PCs. We've had several players disappear, but enough core players have stuck around to make it work.

I still have fond memories of our game of The Haunting, which was also one of my early experiences as a player in a play-by-post game.

The third Doctor Who/Call of Cthulhu adventure, The Shadow Over Dunwich, is still on track to start sometime this summer, though I have a lot more preparation to complete. It's a UNIT adventure set in Dunwich, UK in 1985, and I think it will be the best one yet.

Oh Dunwich UK, of course that makes sense for a UNIT adventure. I hadn't made that connection before. I'm currently writing an article about Dunwich UK for the Yog-Sothothery magazine. So playing in that setting should be fun! And yes I'm really enjoying the Pluto game. That dice roll - and not my bad one for once - really did change things around.
