Weathered the Storm

Josh and I are fine in NYC and RL. We are lucky enough that I have three annoyances:

3. We needed to pull out one of our air conditioners to prevent leaks. (The other two stayed in due to combination of inertia and contradictory opinions about whether it is or isn't better to pull them in.)

2. When watching Hot Fuzz on Netflix DVD, we hit a stretch of 6 minutes that the DVD wouldn't play, and at a climactic point, too. We do know what happened (our Internet stayed up), but we can't have that watching it for the first time experience again.

1. Idiots complaining that the storm was overhyped. It is still going on. Millions are without power. The meat packing district got a foot of water. Red Hook got hammered. Vermont got hammered -- there is scary youtube footage of one of the picturesque covered bridges going down in the storm. People died in this storm. The precautions taken for NYC were not excessive.

Here in Marlborough, MA, about an hour away from Lovecraft Country we were out of power for about 18 hours but we were lucky - there are parts of our town which are still without power.

I think local, state, and federal officials reacted appropriately. There was a range the storm could have taken and government officials tended to err on the side of preparing for the worst. I'd far rather that than see some mayor or governor explaining how precautions were not take because the odds were against the worst from happening.

Well, hopefully the locals in Vermont will keep their eyes open for curious objects in the floodwaters...
