UK Games Expo 2011

As I've mentioned in the forums, Helen and I had a great time again at the UK Games Expo. It's a great opportunity for us to meet people from the site, make new friends and promote "Olde Yoggie" to people who'd not found us before (of which there were many).

On the Friday we arrived at the Expo in Birmingham (after getting lost just the once this year) and unpacked "Carthulhu" and set up the Yoggie table in anticipation of the main Sat/Sun Expo days. This year we'd managed to up our presentation from the old green screen cloth and paper printout signs to a black table covering and the presence of two rather swish banners designed by Eric Smith (Lovecraftian Tales from the Table DVD cover) and Chris Lackey (HPPodcraft/News from Pnakotus) which made a tremendous difference to the look of our stall.

Friday afternoon/evening we had a very relaxed Yog Meet in the Strathallan bar, dragging in more tables and chairs as needed as people popped by. On Saturday morning we began our stint at the Yoggie table. It was busy - and warm. We had an excellent position near the front entrance (where we were in the first year) and thankfully with the front doors left open also had the benefit of a cooling draft.

Time moved too quickly and the day passed in a flurry of Cthulhu-related activity. The wax cylinders we had recently produced caused much discussion - definitely something different on the Yoggie table.

After more socialising in the evening a quieter Sunday rolled around (which was no bad thing after the hectic nature of the Saturday) and ever with an eye out for content for our shows I managed to conduct an interview with Lew Pulsipher about the early days of RPGs and his views on game design. Lew was a name I remembered from many excellent articles from the early days of White Dwarf magazine (but probably more widely known these days for designing the board game, Britannia).

By the time we packed up the Yoggie stall late Sunday afternoon we had talked to lots of people, given out a lot of flyers, sold some items from Innsmouth House and generally had a great time of being at a deservedly popular UK convention.
