  • Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition by Gen Con 2011?

Call of Cthulhu 7th edition by Gen Con 2011?Gil_Trevizo reports some interesting news from the Chaosium seminar at DunDraCon. It appears Chaosium hope to have Call of Cthulhu 7th edition out by Gen Con 2011 in August.

From the sounds of it there won't be significant changes from the 6th edition in terms of rules but there will be some additional material included from Chaosium's Basic Roleplaying book.

In related news it looks like there may actually be an English language second edition of Beyond the Mountains of Madness underway.

Notes by Gil_Trevizo at DunDraCon 2011

    1) CoC 7th edition is a go. The hope is to have it out by Gen Con this year. There will not be significant changes from the 6th edition in terms of rules, just some additional stuff from the big yellow BRP book. The book should follow the general layout of the 6th edition, but there might be some kind of Player's book at a later point.

    2) Things have been worked out with the authors of Beyond the Mountains of Madness, so we might be getting an English language version of the revised edition. Charlie specifically talked about the French version in terms of what Chaosium might produce.

    3) Lynn Willis has retired as Editor-in-Chief at Chaosium.

    4) I also asked if Chaosium was doing anything in regards to WWII for either BRP or CoC, and, while they weren't, Charlie said that Cubicle 7 might be doing something. Although whether that would be for Call of Cthulhu, The Laundry, or something else didn't seem clear.

For more information and discussion, see the News from the Chaosium Seminar at DunDraCon thread in the forums.

Thanks to Gil for reporting on this.

Looking forward to the New edition of the rulebook as any extra background info is always handy. And the news about the 2nd edition of BtMoM is fantastic though with the Movie coming soonish they would be mad not to re-release it.But I really hope they don't keep the weird interior graphics from the sixth edition rulebook.

Amen, Butters. Hell, if Chaosium wanted, I'd redo a slew of those interior images, pro bono. Particularly those character portraits...

Looks like there's also news about Cthulhu by Gaslight 3rd edition, too.

I doubt I will need a new edition but I'm a sucker for extra rules, plus it can't hurt to support the line.

Rumors are that Chaosium might just make Gen Con this year which would be great. I need some new t-shirts. I would love to see a new edition of Gaslight, I think I was a playtester for that, pretty sure.

It's a re-print with a few pages of unnecessary bloat thrown in to warrant a new cover and a handful of extra revenue for Chaosium for zero effort.

As usual they've missed a fantastic opportunity to re-energise the game and draw in additional players (and spenders).

      Sad...
