1978 HPL panel at Iguanacon. J. Vernon Shea, Cthulhu, Dr. Donald R. Burleson, Dr. Dirk W. Mosig, and S.T. Joshi. In celebration of HPL's recent 120th birthday, Will Hart at CthulhuWho1 has released a set of recordings made at the 36th World Science Fiction Convention (Phoenix, Arizona). The 1978 panel entitled "What if Lovecraft had Lived into the 1960's?" featured Prof. Dirk W. Mosig, Prof. Donald R. Burleson, J. Vernon Shea, Fritz Leiber, and S.T. Joshi.

Released as a series of MP3s converted from the original magnetic tape recordings, it offers a fascinating look at insights into HPL studies at the time as well as the opportunity to hear from direct correspondents with Lovecraft such as Fritz Leiber.

Besides the original panel recording itself, there are also some "behind the scenes" files, including a reading by Prof. Donald R. Burleson of his story, The Last Supper. Will has also released a set of readings of Lovecraft's poem cycle, The Fungi from Yuggoth, for people to enjoy.

This is a rare audio treat for Lovecraft fans, and thanks again to Will Hart for sharing these with everyone.

....I was less than a month old when this was recorded. That just makes me chuckle.

I just listened to the recordings, and they really are great. I expected Fritz Leiber's voice to be a little more theatrical, but the guy leading the panel sounds exactly like an aging SF fan in the 1970s, and then there's the cranky old "kids these days" man who was a longtime correspondent with Lovecraft. When they start talking about how computers are appearing everywhere, and about what S.T. Joshi plans to do...

There's nothing on the Chaosium website about it. That's not to say it's not real. The House of R'lyeh didn't get announced until it pretty much shipped.

Actually by the 1920s most revolvers being produced included a transfer bar which prevented accidental discharge when the hammer received a sharp blow.
