  • 'The Unspeakable Oath' to Return

The Unspeakable Oath to returnShane Ivey of Arc Dream has announced that The Unspeakable Oath magazine is to be resurrected beginning this December. TUO, originally published by Pagan Publishing, was the premier Call of Cthulhu magazine of the 90s and is now set to continue from issue #18.

From the new Unspeakable Oath web site:

The Unspeakable Oath is a quarterly magazine dedicated to tabletop roleplaying games that are based on the Cthulhu Mythos — the creations of horror author H.P. Lovecraft, the writers who inspired him, and the writers who followed him.

Created and published by game designers, writers and artists who love Cthulhu Mythos gaming, every issue provides ideas, inspiration, tools and techniques to make your games more horrific than ever.

The Unspeakable Oath began as the flagship publication of Pagan Publishing. It was founded by John Scott Tynes, who served as its editor-in-chief from 1990 to 2001. Today, The Unspeakable Oath is published by Arc Dream Publishing under license from Pagan Publishing, and guided by an editorial board including the magazine's original creators.

The next issue of The Unspeakable Oath will be published in December 2010.

This will be the 18th issue of the Oath, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Oath's very first issue back in the waning days of 1990. The new issue's overall themes are resurrection and rebirth, with all their noxious implications.

    Format and Delivery

The Unspeakable Oath will be published four times per year in a limited print edition and in electronic editions. Each issue is 64 pages, 8.5" x 11", perfect bound, with a color cover and black-and-white interior art. Each issue will also be available for download in PDF, and in ebook formats for iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone, and Kindle.

I always liked UO...they dealt a bit more with more adult themes....my games were never of the PG-13 variety.

Too soon to tell. I would love to release them but the rights are complicated.

This would be totally awesome. For the electronic version, would it work with the Sony pocket reader? Not a deal breaker if it doesn't -- I love my hard copy, and I've found some success playing with various formats on the reader.

Sony e-reader, I'm not sure. I'll have to find out how much labor it would take to convert from ePub over to Sony's format, if any.

I think the Sony Reader should be able to read ePub format files already. See here.
