• Sandy Petersen Launches "Cthulhu World Combat" Kickstarter

Cthulhu World Combat.Sandy Petersen, the original designer of the Call of Cthulhu RPG has announced his return to Cthulhu game production with the launch of a Kickstarter fundraiser for Cthulhu World Combat, a strategy/horror game for iOS devices (iPhone/iPad).

Sandy has been working in the computer game field since he left Chaosium in 1988 and is bringing his enthusiasm and expertise (working with Barking Lizards and artist, Tom Sullivan) to make a new Mythos-based game.

Oh, and if they hit the $1 million mark, they'll be turning it into a board game, too.

    Cthulhu World Combat

Cthulhu World Combat is the first Cthulhu Mythos product in which YOU play as one of these alien gods yourself. The game takes place after the Old Ones have returned to the Earth. You strive to occupy the world for yourself, and compete with the other forces of destruction A.K.A. your friends. Only one can control the ruins of Earth in the end.

Cthulhu World Combat is a multiplayer game, though it also supports singleplayer. Turns are short, lasting only a few minutes at the most, so you can take a short break to play a turn at any time during the day or night. You can have many games going on at once, as with other turn-based iOS games such as Words With Friends.

Stretch goals also include expanding this game beyond just iOS devices. Promised delivery date is July, 2013.

BUT my inactivity is about to change. After years of never being allowed to do anything in the Lovecraft universe, I have taken the Gnoph-Keh by the horns and matters into my own hands. I have designed a new game and have a team to build it with.

Some of our campaign is, frankly, aimed right at the Lovecraft fan's wheelhouse. For instance, we are working with Tom Sullivan for some of the art (and the prizes). Probably y'all are the likeliest people to know and love Tom. Anyway I will be around to answer questions (which do not need to be about the new game). It feels good as a designer to finally come home.

I don't know why but the cover art reminds me of the Ninja Turtles logo.
Sounds interesting though. I will see if I can back it.

I'm trying to imagine a Lovecraftian version of Starcraft.

Won't be surprised if the Crawling Chaos faction gets to 'zerg rush' the slow Cthulhoidian armies. hehe

Cheesy cheesy.... and yet I am tempted to back it.

Actually, the Yellow Sign faction is sort of the zerg-like one. They have undead and all sorts of cheap crappy fast units. Well, undead aren't "fast" but they are cheap as hell. Cthulhu is kind of an ambush predator. He has control of amphibious forces that can sneak up on your coasts with shoggoths and deep ones and starspawn for a good surprise.

Jazzed for this, it's an intersection of so many of my vices at once. Maybe I can back just one last kickstarter for the year.
