  • The Silver Lodge Show - Christmas 2011

The Silver LodgeSince it be ye festive season I thought I'd put out The Silver Lodge show Christmas 2011 edition on general release.

The Silver Lodge is a club-style show in a somewhat more relaxed format than the old Yog Radio. Besides yours truly, hosts in this edition also include Fin, Jon & Marty and features a little bit of news (as News from Pnakotus is taking a short break), a review of Designers & Dragons and The Thing (2011), a new skit: "The Oneironauts" and lots of chat!

Also find out how I unfortunately kill a topic stone dead (sorry).

Anyway, we hope you enjoy this rather jovial show and welcome behind the doors of "The Lodge"!

Great show lads! A good programme, thanks for making this Christmas one free for non patrons. I'll continue with my patron membership next year so I can listen to future shows. I like the way the topics are open to movies, books and other topics now as well as Call of Cthulhu.

Fun show, and some nice discussions of Cthulhu-related releases, like the new The Thing movie. The original two are still much better. I once ran a short adventure that was basically The Thing inverted.

Having carried my own copy of Designers & Dragons across Bradford I can sympathise (well, from my car to my house in Bradford anyhoo). I love it I must say, and as it is pretty much the only book of its type I think it was a worthwhile release on a number of counts. Most of the company entries were weird, mythic rumoured names when I was a young 'un and I've found it fascinating reading, particularly the largely amateurish approach to the business by most people involved. That trend is pretty much still the case today and many of the problems faced by designers and publishers are still being faced today. It appears that the same mistakes are made over and over, essentially mistakes not isolated to the RPG industry but by businesses in general. I would suggest it should be recommended reading for all indie and wanna-be publishers, there are many lessons to be learned. Your crtiticisms of the book are largely fair, after all Mongoose certainly have been victims of the half-arsed approach to enthusiastic game publication. On the whole though I think, due to its pretty much unique nature, it deserves a break until something better comes along. Much like the original D&D in fact.

And nice work on finding Ah Pook the Destroyer too, despite the stupid name that is some nice prog.
