Will episodes of The Silver Lodge be eventually distributed for free, like the old Yog Radio, or can the episodes only EVER be heard with a membership?

Not fully decided as yet. If they go on public release it would be after some delay.

So it is possible that Yog Radio 50 was the last free episode of Cthulhu conversations from Paul, Val, Finn, and Neal. Wow.Will News From Pnakotus also eventually move to subscription-only format? I love love love Yog-Sothoth.com, the podcast, the forums, the community... I'm a fan of all things Lovecraft, but my lovely wife is not. And she has a hard time seeing the value in a regular monthly "bill" for something like a podcast. It doesn't matter what the cost is, she just refuses to see value in it. So that's my roadblock to becoming a patron. It's like this, if I was a patron, she'd look at the expense and keep wondering where the value in it is. It'd eat at her and bug her into the wee hours of the morning. Whereas, in contrast, she doesn't have an issue with my comic book collecting hobby cause she equates a physical comic as value. It's perceived value to her. Getting her to buy into the value of an intangible commodity like a podcast is rough for her. I've tried the "but movies are an intangible commodity" argument, but then she shoots back with the "but we don't pay a monthly bill to watch movies". Uhg. I shall sorely miss The Bradford Gang in the audio format.

I'm sure Paul and the gang would love be able to do all this and provide it free of charge for everyone but the reality is there are is a lot of time and expense that goes into it. They are also in a situation where they have a very loyal but relatively small audience (as far as podcasts/sites of this quality go). The subscription format is really the only thing that can work financially as selling ads is never going to work on this scale, or at least won't be enough on its own. The alternative is that the OfCthulhu's find the expenses associated with the site increasingly hard to justify and it fades into obscurity/non-updated status. I'm proud to be a patron but it is also a ludicrously good value when I think back at the literally hundreds of hours of enjoyment I've gotten from Yog-radio and all the audio games provided on the site. This site is also the number #1 reason my friends and I started playing Call of Cthulhu again after a 10 year hiatus from anything role-playing related. The Call of Cthulhu community should consider itself extremely lucky that Yog-Sothoth.com exists. I understand the argument that "its not physical so why should I pay for it argument" but I think you'll find that most things are going that way in these increasingly digital days. Lastly, sometimes you just have to do/suppport something that your wife/husband doesn't understand. It's OK. I'm sure my wife would think this is as mad as a herd of cheese eating moon goats but I get it and that's enough.

Yeah. I get it. I enjoyed the dream while it lasted, but now I must awake. Besides, there's still the wonderful forum community.

There are no plans to do so. News from Pnakotus remains (and should continue to remain) publicly available.

It's easy to see it as a "bill" - but it's not the way we try to perceive it. We do our very best to keep "Olde Yoggie" going and having explored many other options it really comes down to Patronage from people willing to give a few pennies to keep the site going for everyone. As a thank you for that willingness to provide direct support we make available what additional content and entertainments we can. Alas regular support is needed because our outgoings are also regular.

Never underestimate the power of "intangibles"! You may lose material things, but memories stay with you. Other intangible "goods" can include your cable bill, your BBC License fee (mandated by law in the UK) or the cost of your internet connection. Ultimately it's what you value.

Personally I don't really see it as something paid monthly. It is 15$ (or 9$ for Lodge Members) for 3 months of access, paid at the start of the first month. As far as I know, you can pay the 15$, unsubscribe right after and still get your 3 months of access. You can tell your spouse that you'll pay 15$ once a year, download like crazy and not renew for the rest of the year.

I'm sorry to see that Ol' Yoggie is going subscription-only, but then again this is the best podcast I've ever listened to, and possibly the best online experience in all of tabletop RPG gaming, so I'm seriously considering subscribing. Unfortunately I too have a wife I have to convince and given our expenses from our basement flooding last week this may be tough to sell to her.

Have you visited the patronage page? If not, you can find it here:
      http://www.yog-sothoth.com/content/8...hoth-Patronage

There the different levels are explained. If you have visited that page and still have questions, I think you need to specify them a little more clearly in order for us to be able to answer them.

I'm not a admin on the site so the detailed answers will have to come from them. Hope you join as a patron (any level), personally I think it is worth every cent!

I've been a Patron for a while and I have a job listening to all the stuff and recordings that are on offer. There aren't enough hours in the day. I'm still trailing through walker in the wastes. It's worth every penny though. I joined a few years back as I wanted more content to listen to and I haven't been disappointed. Perhaps you can get subscription as a birthday present or Christmas present from your wife.
