  1. Call of Cthulhu and 2012 - not about publications

Pookie recently started a thread asking people what Call of Cthulhu and 2012 was like for them. But it was based squarely around the new publications, and that's not what the year has been about for me at all.

Sure I've enjoyed reading things, particularly The Unspeakable Oath which is more manageable for me with my neurological illness: Cthulhu-goodness in bite-sized chunks. And I've also lined up various new publications to read on my iPad, including - at long long last yahoo! - ...

  2. My latest haul of 80s RPG magazines

Inspired by a recent YSDC thread about a Mummerset Call of Cthulhu article, not least because I have a husband from Somerset, I looked on eBay for the relevant issue of White Dwarf. And then found I could possibly buy it in a bundle with 5 more from the 80s, for not much extra. And I bid, and got all for 4.99 pounds plus a small amount for postage and packing. Bargain.

They turned up today and are all in excellent condition. I'm going to enjoy rereading these. I used to read White ...

This production was staged at the National Theatre in London in 2011. It starred Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, who alternated the roles of Frankenstein and the Creature on different nights.

Two performances - one for each of the swapped roles - were filmed and broadcast in cinemas in the UK at the time. These recordings are currently being repeated in cinemas around the UK, and will also be shown in selected cinemas around the world. Last night I was able to go to the ...

  4. Browsing old Flagship PBM magazine issues

Back in the 1980s, as a teenager, none of my friends were interested in roleplaying games, and there weren't any local clubs. So I couldn't try face-to-face gaming, and instead found substitutes. Fighting Fantasy and other gamebooks were a lot of fun. And another thing that kept me going was play by mail (PBM) gaming.

This was in a time long before the Internet became widely accessible. Play by mail gaming back then literally meant playing through the post, writing turns for my character, ...

  5. Flying visit to Conpulsion 2012 gaming con

Just back from a flying visit to this Scottish gaming con. It was held over the Easter weekend at Teviot Row House Students Union at the University of Edinburgh - stunning building by the way - see picture on Wikipedia. I could only go down for one day, and then only for a quick trip. I really wanted to go to the talk about Cubicle 7's The One Ring game, early on the Saturday afternoon. But I also wanted to go to the talk with all the team behind their Call of Cthulhu "Shadows over Scotland" ...
