Glad the insurers sorted things out well for you. Hope you're settling down and getting your home back to the way you want it.

We got the final payments on stuff I needed to replace recently, but the insurance company treated us well. The only reason the final payment was delayed was that it was for a couple of small items, and the woman working our case wanted us to submit those all at once, which made sense. All the big stuff (which, fortunately, wasn't that big) came in very quickly. Oddly, the thing I had the most trouble tracking down? Potholders. Silly little potholders and oven mitts.

Well, hopefully the locals in Vermont will keep their eyes open for curious objects in the floodwaters...

Here in Marlborough, MA, about an hour away from Lovecraft Country we were out of power for about 18 hours but we were lucky - there are parts of our town which are still without power.

I think local, state, and federal officials reacted appropriately. There was a range the storm could have taken and government officials tended to err on the side of preparing for the worst. I'd far rather that than see some mayor or governor explaining how precautions were not take because the odds were against the worst from happening.

Make sure you get enough coverage from the insurance and don't have them under repair/clean. We had a neighbour's car roll into our house last year, and the lady from the insurance company grossly underestimated the extent of the damage. She thought our house wall would just need to be reharled (covered), but a builder advised us to get a structural engineer (who we had to pay for), and his report led to the entire wall being demolished and rebuilt, at the insurer's expence.

    Thanks.

We're back now, and the damage is basically kitchen stuff. We need to figure out what level of cleaner we need. Judging from what insurance is giving us, I'm guessing the woman who looked over the place with me is thinking "A competent general cleaner" rather than "Post-fire damage specialist", but I do want to check. All of the dishes need a thorough washing.

The books, games, music, and clothing? All fine.

And... we decided we're doing GenCon.

Really cool it sounds like you and your players really got into the spirit of Tatters. Thanks for all the posting.

well, publication of The King in Yellow was linked to a spate of suicides....

    Totally.

Lots of tiny judgment calls I made, but that one was all her.

And... I had three PCs decide to just... walk into Carcosa behind the KIY and the guide. I mean, they knew where they were (probably) going to wind up.

    *thumbs up* Perfect.

Footnote: I let the PCs bring a car. Originally, I followed the chapter as written, and the reason the PCs can't bring the car they might have hired is that the garages had a lot of breakdowns. But, one of the players asked about a Mechanical Repair roll.

I didn't particularly sabotage the car either. I mean, really, all it means is that, if the PCs survive the night, they don't have to wonder whether the bus will deign to pick them up the next day.

    Thanks!

There are two things to remember when I write up OLoS:

    1. I have not run this. Had I not read a thread here proving it could be done, I'd be dubious that anyone other than the author could do it.

    2. I am not familiar with the type of horror it's riffing on, and I don't think the source material would be to my taste. Note that this is NOT a problem for me -- it would be absurd for me to say, "Oh noes, it isn't Lovecraftian!" Tatters isn't Lovecraftian -- it's Chamberian. But, I'm familiar with the source material there.

Thanks for the great insights and breakdown of Tatters a campaign I liked the idea of but was never to sure how it would pan out especially with such a major clue being given fairly close at the start.
Looking forward to see your take on Our Ladies.

He borrowed the props and costumes off Estus but met with difficulties when some of his cast started call in sick (with 'funny turns') and never got beyond a dress rehearsal.
I'd love to see his script!

Also, if you look at the dates in chapter 7, there's what is either an outright mistake or more evidence that the author didn't intend to have that year gap.

I've now run Act One twice. The first time, I didn't skip the year. The second time, this time, I did. I told the players up front about the weird gap, and when we finished act one, I asked if they wanted to skip the year or not.

One said he was fine not doing it.
One said that, for the sake of his PC's Sanity, he'd prefer to skip the year. This, I think, is ultimately why that gap is in there.
The third player also wanted to skip the year so that his PC could get married and have a child on the way.

So, we skipped the year, which was fine, because we were all on the same page.

I do like the idea of the Crash happening because Hastur didn't appear. That's nicely twisted.

Oh yes. I love "Repairer of Reputations". There was a fun Carcosa larp at GenCon a few years back where one of the characters at Queen Cassilda's court was the Repairer, quite ready to repair or break someone's reputation -- for the proper price.

It was a very simple larp, where it boiled down to which faction got to end the world (or Carcosa, at least), but we were playing for the joy of it, so that really was all we needed.

Well, no matter how badly the show runs, Macbeth is STILL safer than The King in Yellow.
