En-route to Guthlac, Edmund and Johan fall in with some pilgrims who are also travelling to the Abbey.

Shortly before reaching the Abbey, the party encounter a farmer, burning a cow. The cow had started acting strangely - the farmer's belief was that the cow had been possessed by an elf, although that view was not held by the party.
