News from Pnakotus 360 LIVE: It's Hammer Time

We're back.

News from Pnakotus, our Lovecraftian and Cthulhu news show has returned to the digital airwaves after a four year break.

Join Marty and me (Paul) as we talk about what's new and on the YSDC radar in this somewhat experimental first edition of a new series. NfP (#039) was first broadcast live over Twitter; thanks to the 185 people who popped in to watch.

Here's the full audio recording of the show in case you missed some - or all of it. We plan on returning to a fortnightly schedule (as much we can) and broadcasting live where (technically) possible.

There's certainly lots to talk about...

I've just finished listening to the audio (I did watch a lot of the live-stream but gave up after the audio dropped for the 2nd time). The show and format was excellent with a wide range of topics covered - something for everyone.

There were a few things that you covered that I wasn't really aware of and that's prompted me to go find out more information; which I guess is one of the aims of the show.

To sum things up: I enjoyed the show immensely and I'm looking forward to the next instalments.

Will the two-week 'News from Pnakotus' schedule overlap the 'Cthulhu Breakfast Club' schedule?

Thank you, Lee.

This was very much a first outing of the new series; as we settle in it should also be more streamlined. I suspect the CBC and NfP cycles will coincide at some point - then we have to decide whether to:

  • Skip that week on News from Pnakotus.
  • Move NfP to another day on that same week.
  • Incorporate NfP into the start of that month's Breakfast Club.

All possibilities!

Glad you enjoyed it Lee

Lovely to see this back, thank you.

With regard to your piece on Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Fourth Edition, can I bring your attention to ZWEIHÄNDER Grim & Perilous RPG, which is a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay retroclone released under Creative Commons License Share-alike? (Yes, I am biased, since I edited the book, but for anyone looking for an RPG like the first edition, this would be a good choice.)

Looks like the Zweihänder RPG should be out fairly soon, we'd love to see it.

In future shows we'll also have some prize giveaways of items we've been sent for discussion.

Hey gang, Daniel Fox of Grim & Perilous Studios here. I am the writer of ZWEIHÄNDER Grim & Perilous RPG, a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay retroclone. I wanted to provide some additional insight as to the GW licensing situation, as I was the one to originally break the news.

A few facts:

I was in direct talks with GW's licensing department to purchase the license myself out of pocket. It was revealed to me in the conversation, however, that the license was no longer available as they were concluding a deal with a European publisher for "world rights".

Here's my best guess on what this all means:

World rights means both distribution of legacy material, and the rights to create a new edition (with narrative material dictated by GW, spelt out in the licensing contract agreement). Given the discovery of Cubicle 7 as the publisher in DriveThruRPG from my personal files, I believe they are the new European publisher. Here's a quick snapshot:

In addition, Cubicle 7 has been posting cheeky responses in their Facebook feed:

Whether Cubicle 7 will issue new material for WFRP 2e/3e or create a new WFRP 4e set in the Old World/Age of Sigmar is a story yet untold. Color me surprised if they don't take a stab at it. Why else acquire the license? Gaining the rights to PDF sales for a niche RPG without producing new material wouldn't be worthwhile for a licensee.

An announcement will be forthcoming, but I doubt it happens until February.

Lovely to see this back, thank you.

Thanks for the mention!

Pookie did fantastic work for us, and I am looking forward to engaging him again when we finish scoping out our next supplement.

Wow that is some excellent sleuth work Zweihänder. That probably constitutes a critical spot hidden or library use or whatever they call it these days in 7e...
