Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion PDF

If you don't know what the Masks of Nyarlahotep Companion is, then the MoNC KS thread in the forums will give you a pretty extensive history. It is in essence the largest support document for a single roleplaying campaign ever produced. Undertaken as a decade-long volunteer project by many generous and diverse hands as a fundraiser for YSDC, the completion of the KS has been drawing to a close.

The reception to this volume of encyclopaedic proportions and depth has been such that by agreement with Chaosium and the MoNC creators, the PDF version has now been put on sale, and through an extremely generous act by all involved the profits from those sales will directly benefit Yog-Sothoth.

The Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion is available directly (and exclusively) from Chaosium's web site. It is wonderful to know that this epic work, dedicated to one of the greatest roleplaying campaigns, will see life and appreciation beyond the Kickstarter.

Thank you to everyone who's been a part of this epic publication, and if you're planning to run Chaosium's Masks of Nyarlathotep, then the Companion may just be a handy thing to have...

Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion - PDF

"Men advised one another to see Nyarlathotep, and shuddered. And where Nyarlathotep went, rest vanished, for the small hours were rent with the screams of nightmare." – H.P. Lovecraft, 1920

"What kind of weapons do Bloody Tongue cultists use?"
"What does the Liber Ivonis contain?"
"What hospitals are there in Mombasa?"
"How do you organise a raid on Gray Dragon Island?"
"What do I do if everybody dies???"

Ever since its release in 1984, Masks of Nyarlathotep has been considered one of the finest supplements for Call of Cthulhu, a roleplaying classic. Countless players have dared to thwart the machinations of Nyarlathotep and plumb the mysteries of the Carlyle expedition. Running this globe-trotting campaign is unfortunately rather a challenge, with scores of NPCs, dozens of locations, hordes of cultists, and at least one very angry Outer God. Needless to say, even the best Keeper could use a little help.

That is where the Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion comes in. Drawing on the wisdom and experience of the members of Yog-Sothoth.com, the Companion gathers together tips and advice for Keepers wishing to run Masks of Nyarlathotep. Within these pages are detailed nearly every imaginable facet of the campaign, from starting play to ending things with a bang; explaining, exploring, and expanding the classic work. There is something for everyone, from novice game masters to Grognardian disciples of Cthulhu.

The Masks of Nyarlathotep Companion contains:

  • A History of the Campaign.
  • Keeper’s Tips for organising and running the campaign.
  • Tips on how to introduce, use, and kill Jackson Elias.
  • Guides to New York, London, Cairo, Kenya, Australia’s Pilbara Coast, Shanghai AND Hong Kong.
  • Articles describing and expanding on all of the campaign’s tomes and artefacts.
  • Four new scenarios and numerous encounters that can be inserted into the campaign.
  • Over two-dozen pre-generated characters plus tips on building better investigators.
You too can challenge (or challenge again) your players with this award-winning campaign, now with the power of the Companion at your side!

Price: £36.49, over 700 pages in length.

Here's a video posted by one of the KS print backers showing their copy.

The PDF version contains all this and also has the advantage of being instantly searchable (extremely useful in a book of some half-a-million words)!

This is tremendous news! Congratulations to all who have been involved in the process - the Companion is a truly amazing work, both in terms of its content and its journey to publication. Thank you to everyone who made it possible.

THIS is what I wanted to see, and I'm very glad that it's happening this way.  Thank you to everyone for this wonderful project and the kindness toward Paul and Yog-Sothoth.

Chaosium is so cool for not being crazy about copyright and such. It is an amazing volume. I will be running Masks at Imaginarium and Nerdlouvia this year, and I will be using this to create my evil adventure.

Well, we did do this under license, so their copyright wasn't an issue.  That they're donating the bulk of the sales price to YSDC is a very appreciated act of generosity that allows us to uphold the spirit of the project and lets Keepers who missed the Kickstarter a chance to make use of the material.

✅ So cool

This is fantastic news for YSDC and for players of MoN alike.

Ok, I'm old and dumb, and I really don't understand all this kickstarter stuff. I've bought the PDF, and it's great. Is it possible to buy a paper version anywhere?

The physical edition of MoNC is out of print. There have been some copies seen on eBay.

Thanks
